History

The UBC Bhangra Club was started in 1994 by a group of students at UBC who wanted to provide a connection with their culture, and give students at UBC, particularly Indo-Canadian students, with a positive outlet of expression, and interaction.

With it's doors open to all members of the UBC community, the Bhangra Club seeked to showcase their vibrant culture through various means, leading to the onset of the "Exhibition India" culture show. The show began as a primarily Punjabi-culture oriented event that soon included different shades of India - hence the name, "Exhibition India". The Bhangra Club used the culture show as a way for members to put on a show that not only showed their cultural roots but also helped in bridging the gap between generations with a show that everyone could enjoy.

Now, as one of the most popular and well-known clubs on campus, the UBC Bhangra Club has expanded its horizons to include not only the culture show but also charitable endeavours, community involvement, memorable parties, and of course lots of dancing.
